Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma will honor Tom Ward and SandRidge Energy, Inc. with the Judge William R. Saied Founder’s Award for their advancement of mentoring in Oklahoma City at the 31st Annual Taste of Oklahoma City.
When it comes to serving communities, SandRidge places its primary focus on child advocacy efforts. The company supports a variety of initiatives and organizations that further the health and wellness, education and well being of children.
“Every child is special and has unique talents to offer,” Ward said. “Our goal is to help them recognize their talents and realize their full potential.”
Ward’s leadership has instilled a sense of philanthropy throughout the entire SandRidge organization, which is reflected in their participation with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma. SandRidge employees are involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters on every level from serving on the board of directors to volunteering at their partner school, Dunbar Elementary.
“We are grateful to Mr. Ward and the employees of SandRidge Energy for their active role in making a positive difference in the lives of children in Oklahoma City,” said Kelley McGuire, area director for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma. “They are the perfect example of how businesses can partner with Big Brothers Big Sisters to bring about positive academic impacts and help reduce the high school dropout crisis in our community.”
“As individuals and as an organization, we enjoy many benefits and opportunities,” Ward said. “But nothing compares to when we give back to those around us who are in need. Active participation and positive influence in the life of a child provides rewards beyond measure. The child, the volunteer and the community all win.”
Ward became Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SandRidge Energy, Inc., an independent natural gas and oil company, in 2006.
